Marten Japenga, our gateway into mainland Europe, is based in Eindhoven in the Netherlands.

Marten comes with broad experience with 15 years in electronics and 15 years in analytical, laboratory and process instrumentation. Marten has held various positions including technical sales, marketing and management in companies including Philips, DuPont and Zeton. Marten has also run his own businesses: ATAS and Martech Scientific. Most recently, Marten was elected to Zeton’s International Board of Directors and to Chairman of the SCI Strategic Business Group. Marten spends time with EU organizations to promote SME’s (Small and Medium sized Enterprises). Marten is Managing Director of Zeton BV in Enschede, Netherlands.

Jeff Macklin leads FDUK, the UK’s largest and most respected provider of part-time finance directors to ambitious businesses – businesses which need the skill and experience that only a proper finance director can bring, but which do not yet have the resources to employ such a person full-time.

Neil Burns With a strong urge to set up and run his own company, Neil joined forces with Jonathan Cooper in early 2000 to build a recruitment business at george james ltd. As with the training services offered by the company, he has led the development of the recruitment business very much within the scientific and technology market place. The recruitment services offered are a mix of both traditional and new approaches with the focus very much on providing a highly professional, innovative and proactive based recruitment service.

Prior to joining george james, Neil worked in the scientific instrument industry for Perkin Elmer and Canberra Packard (later to become Packard Bioscience). After roles in sales management at PE, Neil took on much broader responsibilities at Packard initially as UK managing director with overall responsibility for sales, marketing, operations and servicing the company’s range of instrumentation and associated reagents and consumables to the life science market. He turned a loss making operation into the most profitable subsidiary of the US based company, simultaneously increasing both revenue and margin before being given full responsibility for the European operations. As Director of European operations, he was responsible for all European subsidiaries, distributors and agents developing both individual organisations and building the first pan-European marketing and support capability. He continued to secure significant growth for the company across the European market growing European sales faster than in the home US market and was responsible for over 140 staff and $60 million revenue.

Patents & Trademarks
Mark Yeadon is a graduate of the Universities of Oxford (B.A. (Hons.), Engineering Science) and Birmingham (Ph.D., Metallurgy and Materials). After completing his doctoral studies he worked as a Research Fellow at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, on the development of new materials and processes for microelectronics and nanotechnology. He then joined the Institute of Materials Research and Engineering (IMRE), Singapore where he worked as a Senior Scientist, having a joint appointment to the Department of Materials Science, at the National University of Singapore. He also served as technical advisor to two Singapore-based spin-off companies before returning to the UK to join the patent profession and is based in the Leeds office of Harrison Goddard Foote.

Andrew has worked for publicly quoted technology based companies in the UK and USA.  From an early career in Quality Management, Andrew moved into Professional Services and then to an International Business Development role.  Andrew has managed large consultancy teams, developed international networks, researched and developed new lines of business, raised funds for new ventures and led acquisitions.

As a consultant, Andrew has advised privately owned, technology/science based organisations on the development of their business plans, brokered private equity and debt financing and facilitated technology transfer and licensing deals between SME’s and major corporations.

One of Andrew’s core strengths is his ability to rapidly assimilate new ideas and concepts and to turn these ideas into an achievable plan. Andrew can quickly assess what needs to be done, assemble the people needed to do it, channel their commitment to it, and develop an implementation plan.

Andrew brings the additional experience of the challenges and changes transitioning a privately-owned company to a public corporation through an IPO on the London Stock Exchange.
